Shaping the future of sustainable liquid waste
At Reliance Recovery NZ, sustainability isn’t just part of what we do — it’s the driving force behind every decision we make. As Dunedin’s first liquid waste dewatering facility, we’re proud to deliver a smarter, cleaner alternative to the old way of managing liquid waste. This is a major step forward for our region, ensuring resources are recovered and reused rather than lost to landfill.
A Smarter Way to Treat Liquid Waste
For decades, liquid waste from sumps, mud tanks, and oil interceptors was simply trucked to landfill — buried in the ground where it risked contaminating soil, waterways, and ecosystems. Our facility changes that story. By separating solids from liquids and repurposing waste locally, we divert significant volumes away from landfill, transforming them into reusable or stabilised products that can go back into use rather than into the ground.
Turning Waste Into Renewables
We’ve also designed our operations to minimise our own footprint. Our plant runs on solar energy, ensuring the recovery process itself is powered sustainably. Recovered water is clarified and reused in our operations — like washing trucks and equipment — which reduces pressure on local freshwater supplies. The separated solids are stabilised by blending with other cleaner solid wastes to lower contamination, bringing the bi product to a material that can be repurposed for composting, clean fill, or safe disposal as low-contaminated soil
But we don’t just talk about impact — we measure it. Over the next six months, this page will feature a live tally showing how much waste we’ve diverted from landfill and how much has been transformed into reusable products. This provides clear, measurable results that local businesses and the wider Dunedin community can stand behind. By working with Reliance Recovery NZ, you’re not just disposing of waste — you’re actively reducing carbon emissions, protecting natural resources, and investing in a more sustainable future for our region.
Together, we’re proving that every load of liquid waste can be an opportunity — to recover, reuse, and rebuild a cleaner future for Dunedin and beyond.
